Furepe fall Snowshoe & Wildlife Watching
In winter, Shiretoko’s famous Furepe Waterfall turns into a curtain of blue ice.
The mist from the falls, blown by the northern wind, creates mysterious shapes of frozen art.
Behind it rise the snow-covered Shiretoko mountains, and during the drift ice season from late January to early March, the vast white ice field spreads out below.
Thanks to the snow and snowshoes, you can walk into places that are hard to reach in other seasons, discovering a new side of Shiretoko.
Enjoy this beautiful winter landscape and the quiet joy of snowshoeing.
